Oswego last year rode Gabe Panza most of the year behind the plate, but this year Miller has rotated with Nick Cecchi.
"Last year with Gabe, we kind of wore him out I felt," Oswego coach Joe Giarrante said. "I've told JD and Nick they both have to be ready to go. We have confidence in both of them. It's nice to have a guy like JD who can bounce around and play multiple positions."
Oswego (9-5, 3-4) particularly needs its players to be flexible now.
The Panthers, who started the season 5-0, have been hit by a rash of injuries. Third baseman Garry Maynard, who was hitting close to .600, pulled his hamstring two weeks ago and was expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Nathan Ricken is out for the season with an elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery, and Giarrante is awaiting an MRI on Cody Quirin's elbow. Outfielder Jake Salzbrunn left Monday's game with an injury.
