National Night Out introduces Oswego community to law enforcement
On a cloudy Tuesday evening at Prairie Point Park in Osweo, community members gathered to learn about the facets of local law enforcement and community maintenance services as part of the nationwide observance of National Night Out.
National Night Out is an annual event that serves as a way to introduce members of the community to their local law enforcement and to promote relationships between the community and their police officers.
Tuesday's event marked the first time that the celebration of National Night Out has been held in partnership with the Oswegoland Park District. David Curnock, a special events athletic intern with the park district, took the lead on the project.
"Usually, it's a neighborhood event where families put their own block parties together, but we wanted to create a more community-involvement type of event with the park district, police officers, and firefighters," Curnock said. "It's going really well, a lot of people are here getting a chance to climb on vehicles like boats and helicopters that they might not get a chance to."
Tuesday's community gathering featured the Illinois State Police, Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Sheriff's Office, Oswego Fire Protection District, and several other organizations, including a helicopter from Clark, the company who is responsible for mosquito spraying in Oswego.
