Minnesota commit Tyler Nubin took the direct snap and rolled right. North hadn't attempted a pass from the Wildcat until now. It had been ready to go for five or six weeks, and this was the chance.
Nubin found Alec Kritta and lofted it to the end zone for the touchdown with nine minutes left, which helped carry the North Stars to an 24-17 victory over previously undefeated Rolling Meadows in the Class 7A second-round game.
The North Stars (8-3) move to the quarterfinals for just the second time in program history – the last time being in 2009. Wheaton Warrenville South, who defeated Hononegah 20-14 later in the afternoon, now awaits.
The Tigers defeated St. Charles North just a number of weeks ago in the final seconds of the fourth quarter on a Jack Olsen field goal, setting the stage for the ultimate possible redemption for the North Stars.
