Kaneland (14-7, 5-2) was victimized by a 12-0 run from Yorkville (8-12, 3-4) to open the second quarter and it boosted the Foxes to a 20-18 halftime lead.
The Foxes were able to attack the basket for easier shot attempts, something they hadn’t necessarily been able to do without junior guard Lily Guerra in the lineup.
Out since Dec. 18, Guerra didn’t just test the waters and give a teammate a brief breather for coach Kim Wensits. Rather, she played most of the game, scoring 14 of her game-high 19 points after halftime and nearly leading the Foxes to a come-from-behind win.
“I went straight into training to make sure I wasn’t rusty when I came back,” Guerra said about coming back from a strained knee injury. “I wanted to come back killing it because I knew my team needed me so I wanted to be there for them.”
