Spotting a defense like Sandwich double digits, though, is no easy mountain to scale.
"It took us a little bit to figure out their press; obviously that's their bread and butter," said Lay, whose team committed 25 turnovers. "We thought if we could show some poise to break their press we could play them in the halfcourt. We got better as the game wore on, but they really make a living off steals and layups."
Indeed, Vana in particular on Thursday. She sat the second quarter with two fouls, but returned to score eight points with two steals in the third quarter.
"I knew I had to step up my game after I came back in," Vana said. "I learned from my mistakes, that I cannot reach."
