Yorkville Christian's Christian Sovern tied the game with a free throw before Brown's free-throw line jumper. A three-point play by Mekhi Lunford — part of his game-high 20 points to go along with eight boards — and two free throws by Colton Schutt and freshman Jaden Schutt had the Mustangs ahead 43-38 with 5 minutes, 43 seconds on the clock.
"We didn't play very well, and we had a lot of fouls," said Newark coach Rick Tollefson, his squad committing half of its 14 turnovers in the fourth and outshot 26-9 from the line.
After Jacobson's solid all-around game for Newark, Brett Myre had 11 points and seven rebounds, Jacob Slivka nine points and two steals, Brown eight points, and Swanson four points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.
For Yorkville Christian, Tristan Phillips had 11 points and Jaden Schutt a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
