A morning rainstorm didn't deter Montgomery and area residents from filling River Street and the village's downtown area to watch the annual Montgomery Fest parade, Sunday, Aug. 11.
Passing in front of Montgomery's Village Hall, the parade featured several local bands, dance troupes, village workers, as well as law enforcement and first responders.
Also making a special appearance in the parade, were the year's grand marshals: Tom Meyers and Robert Watermann. Meyers has worked with Montgomery Fest since its start in 1984 as food vendor coordinator, head of the first aid tent, and as organizer of the fire department's water fights. Meyers has served as fire chief since 1990.
Watermann, who handled security for the festival for many years, also assisted with the planning of Montgomery Fest during his time on Montgomery's Village Board. Watermann became chief of the South Park Fire Protection District in 2007, and guided the district through its merger with the Aurora Township Fire Protection District, where he remains as chief.
