New Yorkville hotel to be a Holiday Inn Express

The new hotel planned for Yorkville will be a Holiday Inn Express and Suites Hotel, according to city economic development officials.

Lynn Dubajic, the city’s economic development consultant, told the Yorkville City Council on Tuesday that hotel project developer Sonny Shah of Kendall Hospitality LLC received approval from the Holiday Inn Express parent corporation for the franchise.

Jason Pesola of Yorkville is the partner/broker on the project, and Jim Ratos of Yorkville is a partner/developer of the project.

Dubajic said the four-story hotel will include more than 90 rooms, including some as suites. There will also be an adjacent 12,000-square-foot banquet facility, to be named later.

A groundbreaking is set for 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at the site north of the NCG Cinemas movie theater. A reception will follow at Lakeview Grille in Yorkville.

“One thing we desperately need is a nice banquet hall,” Mayor Gary Golinski said.

The Yorkville City Council unanimously approved a development agreement with Shah in May that includes a commitment of TIF district proceeds.

As part of the developer agreement, Kendall Hospitality LLC agreed to acquire the property before July 1, begin construction before the end of this year, and complete the project by the end of 2018.

Shah has said he aims to complete the project ideally by Memorial Day 2018.

There are 2,507 Holiday Inn Express branded hotels in operation as of March 2017, according to the website for IHG, the parent company of Holiday Inn Express.

There are 689 hotels planned to be built, the website states.
