Indian Valley Theatre is planning auditions for its upcoming production of “Fools,” written by Neil Simon and directed by Brad Shortridge, from 6 to 8 p.m. April 25, 10 a.m. to noon April 28 and 6 to 8 p.m. April 30.
Auditions will be held in the Community Room at the Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St. in Sandwich, and are open to the public. Please be prepared for a cold reading from the script. No appointment is necessary and IVT membership is not needed to audition, although it is required if cast. Audition forms may be downloaded prior to auditioning on IVT’s website, www.indianvalleytheatre.com.
Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He’s landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives, he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon’s job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes Stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so Stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.
The cast calls for the following characters:
• Leon – The teacher. Age 20s to 35. This is a large role.
• Dr. Zubritsky – Father of Sophia. 50 or older.
• Gregor Yousekevitch – The villain. 20 or older.
• Sophia – The student. 20s.
• Lenya Zubritsky – Sophia’s mother. 50 or older.
• Yenchna – Florist. 50 or older.
Adult roles for men or women, any age:
Snetsky – The shepherd.
Magistrate – The keeper of law.
Slovitch – The butcher.
Mishkin – The postal employee.
