The SD308 Board of Education voted unanimously Monday, June 11, to recall three additional teachers who had been honorably dismissed earlier in this spring, bringing the total number of recalled staff members to 11.
At its March 19 meeting, the board voted to honorably dismiss 36 teachers as part of the $7 million budget cut package passed by the board earlier in the year. The board enacted the cuts to lower a projected $3 million deficit for the 2018-19 school year.
The three teachers who were recalled at the June 11 board meeting will be assigned to Lakewood Creek Elementary School in Montgomery and Old Post Elementary School in Oswego. Two of the teachers will fill fourth grade spots left vacant by teachers who transferred to other positions at different schools, while the third will return to teach fifth grade. In addition to the three recalled teachers, the board approved the rehire of two Early Childhood personnel, a mathematics teacher at Oswego East High School and a certified school nurse at Oswego East High School.
The four rehired teachers had also been let go at the March 19 meeting as part of a group of 27 probationary part-time teachers and teachers hired under a temporary contract. Seven additional faculty members were hired at district schools, to either serve as replacements for faculty members who resigned, or due to increased student enrollment in various specialty programs.
The SD308 Board of Education will next meet on Monday, July 16, at Oswego East High School at 7:15 p.m.
