BoDeans, Spin Doctors to headline PrairieFest 2019 in Oswego

Popular rock band the BoDeans will headline the Saturday night concert at this year’s PrairieFest community celebration in Oswego.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, during a “Coffee with the Chamber” event hosted by the Oswego Area Chamber of Commerce and First National Bank.

PrairieFest will be held at PrairieFest Park just south of Oswego High School off Route 71 Thursday, June 13, through Sunday, June 16.

“Ultimately what we’re trying to do, is put together a lineup that’s exciting to people in our community,” Special Events Supervisor Kristi Vest said. “So we’re trying to put together the music that they’ve enjoyed over the years on the radio, stuff that they know the words to, and they can have an enjoyable experience with their friends and neighbors on the PrairieFest lawn.”

The BoDeans, best known for their 1980s-era hits “Fadeaway,” “Only Love,” and “Dreams,” will headline on Saturday night. The BoDeans were crowned Best New American Band, in a 1987 Rolling Stone reader poll, and have played with U2, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, George Thorogood, The Pretenders and David Bowie.

Naperville-area band Summer Son will open for the BoDeans on Saturday night. Best known for their “Nashville Style,” Summer Son entertains with a mix of traditional country, modern hits, and non-country songs that listeners will know and love.

“The Midwest’s Most Renowned Cover Band,” Mike & Joe, will perform on Thursday night at the First National Bank Main Stage. Friday’s Family Show will feature Jim Gill on the main stage, with bands Tricky Mission and the Spin Doctors performing on Friday night. American English, a well-known Beatles cover band, will close out PrairieFest on Sunday night.

Entertainment for PrairieFest will also include appearances from: PrairieFest Princesses and Superheroes on Thursday, The Hillbilly Science Show on Friday, Chris Perondi’s Stunt Dog Shows on Friday and Saturday, and the annual PrairieFest parade on Sunday.

As in past years, there will be no admission charge for the concerts.
