Letter: No negative campaigning

To the Editor:

Citizens of Oswego: Re-elect Gail Johnson as Your Village Leader.

Municipal elections can be fraught with “lies, damned lies and statistics.” American author Mark Twain attributed that quotation to British Prime Minister Disraeli 113 years ago. To her credit, Oswego Village President Gail Johnson refuses to engage in negative campaigning in her bid for re-election on April 2.

Taking the high road makes it difficult to defend herself against adversaries hurling blatant lies. President Johnson’s record stands on its own:

·Robust Economic Development – restaurants and luxury apartments for the Hudson Crossing development on the resurgent downtown riverfront as well as new additions and lease renewals along the Route 34 Corridor.

·Law Enforcement Support – new HQ for Oswego Police Dept. constructed using no property-tax dollars.

·Collaboration – Johnson believes in the cost-effective sharing of resources with neighboring towns.

There is still more Mrs. Johnson wants to do to fully achieve her forward-thinking vision for the Oswego community – a place she has loved for more than 40 years as a resident with her husband, Mark, and their two daughters.

Servant leadership was modeled by her own parents. Johnson truly enjoys helping others and facilitating their growth. Most importantly, she is honest and possesses the utmost moral integrity.
