Days of rain broke in time for the weekend giving the crowds at Oswego's annual Wine on the Fox tasting festival two days of sunny skies and warm temperatures to enjoy drinks and entertainment.
"The sun is shining, and the crowds are coming, and we've got a lot of wine," said an enthused Jenette Sturges, community engagement coordinator for the village.
The festival featured 26 wine tasting booths, representing Illinois, Indiana, California, Florida, New Zealand, France, Italy, and other locations.
"It's going great, everyone has smiles on their faces; the sun is shining and the wine is flowing," Britt White, brand ambassador for Galena Cellars said. Galena Cellars offered their top sellers, including an Oktoberfest wine and a unique Jalapeno wine that came with jalapenos in the bottle.
The event moved this year from Hudson Crossing Park along the banks of the Fox River to Village Square Park outside of Village Hall due to construction projects.
"With the rain that we had earlier this week, even if we had planned for Hudson Crossing Park, we would have been coming up here anyway," Economic Development Director Corinna Cole said.
"What's really nice, is because we were planning on coming up here, we were able to plan on a bunch of additional touches that we wouldn't have planned for if we had gotten rained out," Sturges said.
Extra touches included wine barrels decorated with flowers, a Mother's Day shopping row of downtown village shops, and entertainment for children that came to the festival. Guests could also participate in seminars on the basics of wine, and the popularity of rose wines.
