Roundup: Meggie Scott's buzzer-beater lifts Newark to OT win

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark

Meggie Scott had 19 points and five assists, and hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer, in the Norsemen's 48-47 overtime win over Mendota Saturday. Jocelyn Mitchell added 14 points and five assists, Kaitlyn Hatteberg nine points and nine rebounds and Kellie Snyder 16 rebounds for Newark (9-2).

Sandwich

Jaylynn Vana scored 14 points and Claire Roberts added 11, but St. Francis hit seven 3-pointers to beat the Indians 44-35. Ava Knepper added nine points for Sandwich (7-3).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Yorkville

Josh Beetham had 14 points and eight rebounds, Cole Yearsley added 13 points and all 11 Yorkville players scored in 79-45 win over IMSA on Saturday. Jack Fisher had 12 points and five steals and Jack Marker chipped in with 10 points, team-high six assists and five steals for Yorkville (6-3).

Yorkville Christian

Micah Schnyders scored 32 points for the Mustangs (7-1) in a 77-47 win over Elgin Academy. Jaden Schutt added 19, Brayden Long 15 and Christian Sovern 11.

WRESTLING

Oswego

Oswego (9-3) beat Glenbard East 49-29, Leyden 42-25 and Grayslake North 41-36 in duals Saturday. Winners by pin against Glenbard East included Ryan Goddard (106), Logan Guerrero (126), Zach Sato (138), Andrew Johnson (152), Aidan Griffin (195) and Julian Flores (285). Earning pins against Leyden were Guerrero (126), Derek Torza (145), Griffin (195), Manny Gonzalez (220) and Flores (285). Pins against Grayslake North were Sato (138) and Cruz Ibarra (160).

Sandwich

Sandwich took eight wrestlers to the Ottawa JV tournament and six placed. Dougie Taxis (113) took sixth, Evan Fraser (126) fourth, Adrian Mendoza (132) second, Seven Tornga (132) fourth, Austin Sinetos (145) sixth, Bryce Decker (145B) third and Elijah Somlock (152) second.
