But after Friday evening's Interstate Eight Conference matchup with rival Plano, Sandwich celebrated a new-found mastery of shot making precision connecting on 21 of 42 (50 percent) overall from the field while nailing 7 of 12 (58 percent) beyond the 3-point arc to help run away with a lopsided 53-22 running-clock win over the Reapers.
Senior Ava Knepper sparked the Indians 3-ball outburst early and often connecting on a trio of triples in the first quarter alone which helped tie Sandwich's second-best effort in school history for made 3-pointers in a ballgame as a team falling just one short of the record of eight made by the Lady Indian clubs of 2008, '11 and '12.
"I don’t ever think we've had this good of a shooting game since I've been in high school," Knepper said. "Holy-moly I can't believe we made seven 3s tonight and it was pretty crazy and amazing knowing we can shoot that well as a team. That's set a new standard for us going into the second half of the season."
