Open Roads ABATE at NW Region Chili Shootout

The Northwest Region ABATE of Illinois Inc. hosted the 13th annual Chili Shootout on Feb. 1 in Dixon. All chapters were represented to meet with State Coordinator Dennis Byron and Northwest Region Coordinator Sandy Murrell. Attending from Open Roads ABATE were Fred Chaffer, Patti and Kevin Smith, Sam and Sharyl Mataya, Sally and Bill Kolb, and Cliff and Linda Oleson. Activities included chili judging, a silent auction, bake sale, raffles and networking with other chapters. Murrell (left) is pictured with the chili winners. Mild chili winners: Bill Kolb, Open Roads ABATE, first; Becky Snyder, Freeport Chapter, second; and Jennifer Baumgartner, Twin Rivers Chapter, third. Hot chili winners: Sharyl Mataya, Open Roads ABATE, first; “Taz,” Kishwaukee Chapter, second; and Carla Enburg, Blackhawk Chapter, third. Enburg also won the “People’s Choice” award.
