The Auxiliary to Lewis P. Schultz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1486 of Sandwich was busy this past holiday season working on various projects to support our local veterans, as well as our troops serving overseas.
On Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day, members of the Auxiliary visited the veterans at nursing homes in Sandwich and Yorkville. Auxiliary members prepared 55 containers of assorted treats and delivered them to veterans at Willow Crest, Sandwich Rehab, Hillside Healthcare, Heritage Woods and Cedarhurst Assisted Living. Another five containers were given to homebound local veterans. The Auxiliary also delivered letters and colored pictures drawn by the kindergarten classes at Woodbury School.
For Christmas, the Auxiliary purchased pillows and pillowcases for the veterans. The pillowcases were embroidered with “Armed Forces Veteran.” Members delivered 54 pillows and pillowcases, as well as candy bars, to the veterans at the above-named facilities, visiting with them and singing Christmas carols.
The Auxiliary purchased goods and packaged and shipped care packages to several local service personnel serving overseas. If you have a friend or family member serving overseas who would like to receive care packages from home, contact Mary Murphy, secretary of the Auxiliary, at 815-695-9544. All addresses and information are kept confidential. If you are interested in the Auxiliary, call for more information.
The members of VFW Auxiliary Post 1486 of Sandwich thank everyone who gives us support by attending our fundraisers, supporting Poppy Days, and giving donations.
