To the Editor:
I recall in the 1980s my community stood up for me and all other students in passing not one but two referendums to support our local public schools. The people here said to our young people we will always support you and not let our community fail. That has always been with me ever since I graduated in 1987 from Oswego High School. Today we are in a very similar situation and I would advocate the stakes are much higher today compared to the 1980s. Our School District 308 is the largest employer in Kendall County, it is our number one asset we have as a community that has attracted thousands of people to live here and serves not only Oswego, but Aurora, Plainfield, Yorkville, Joliet and Montgomery. It serves over 18,000 students, over 1,400 teachers and administrators. It is imperative that this vote pass to keep our school district competitive and viable for not only today but tomorrow.
As a lifelong resident and business owner who will see taxes rise on my home, my business and elderly parents by proudly voting YES! I kindly ask you to please pay it forward as others did for us all to vote YES to invest in our community and our school district. This is a tremendous opportunity to set a great example for our young people today by standing up for our values and future just as they did in the 1980s. Please vote yes to support our Community Unit School District 308.
