To the Editor:
In last week's Forum, a letter writer stated that anonymous persons publish anything without citing sources or authors. He claimed this is done to explain why bad events happen and because the writers cannot accept the obvious reasons, and this has proved disastrous throughout history. He then cites two letters published in the Ledger without naming the authors. One letter obviously was my letter, where I proposed that current events are being used by those who promote socialism as a better system of government.
The letter twisted what I said in my letter, claiming I said that the coronavirus was manufactured when I actually said, “I do not doubt there is the coronavirus, but we do not know if it occurred naturally or was created.” What we do know is it originated in Wuhan, China, and that China will not allow external examination and inspection of the laboratory and free market where it originated. I know there have been pandemics; however, normally a pandemic migrates from country to country and does not occur spontaneously in many countries simultaneously like the coronavirus did. He stated, that I said the stay-at-home order is how government is trying to take us all over. Totally false. What I did say was, “the shelter in place is similar to what it is like to live in a socialist country but in socialism it is worse because the government controls everything.”
The writer states that peaceful protests are good, but ignores the fact that the recent protests have been riots that destroyed and burned property with looting prevalent. He also ignores that parts of cities were commandeered by mobs. All of this was reported nightly, so where was the writer? His letter is a contradiction because he accuses others of not giving facts when his letter is devoid of facts and is mainly opinion.
I support our laws and enforcement agencies that are established to protect us. Regarding his statement on leadership, there was an absence of leadership and support of the police in the cities where most rioting and destruction took place: Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago. The elected government of those cities for decades has been from the Democratic Party and that is fact. Federal assistance was offered to stop the violence, but was turned down by all of these cities and was factually reported.
