Oswego Senior Center offering online events, classes via Zoom

The Oswego Senior Center is hosting several online activities and classes to engage participation while accommodating the safety and health of seniors.The technology for online participation will be through Zoom. Although staff members are not on-site daily, they are collecting messages regularly at 630-554-5602. Calls will be returned.

Learn How to Zoom Link: Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Practice and personal assistance will be available to you via your PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone through this Oswego Senior Center Learn to Zoom Link class. COVID-19 Educational Seminar: 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25. Participate through Zoom or in-facility at Oswego Senior Center, 84 Templeton Drive, Oswego, as Jazmin Delgado, BS, pharmacy intern at Walgreens provides an educational seminar on COVID-19,
influenza and shingles. Learn how you can protect yourself and loved ones. Hear about the most current information on COVID-19 followed by a Q&A session. Delgado's presentation will include an overview of COVID-19, influenza and shingles; pharmacological vs. non-pharmacological and vaccines for each. All ages invited. Must advance register at 630-554-5602 for in-facility limited seating. Temperature and self-health check screen, signed waiver, face covering and social distancing required. Coffee & Chat: Wednesdays, 1 to 2 p.m. Kathy Perez, MSW, LSW invites you to join her for social chit chat and coffee from the comfort of your own home. Who knows what we will discover. Call OSC at 630-554-5602 with your email address or join through the website oswegoseniorcenter.org.

Tai Chi Zoom Class: Fridays, 11 a.m.  Instructor Kristi Niedzwiecki will lead you through this slow moving, fluid exercise that helps with balance, coordination, movement, agility and mindfulness. Heart & Bones: Tuesday-Friday at 10 a.m. Participants will benefit from cardio, resistance and strength training. Balance, coordination, flexibility, agility and energy may be improved. All exercises can be modified to accommodate injuries or specific needs. Wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes and participate from the comfort of your home. Instructors are Gabriel Davila, ACE certified trainer and Beth Peshia, OSC health and wellness coordinator. Walk About Oswego: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. Walkers will meet at 156 E. Washington St. (former Oswego Senior Center building) to enjoy a walk around the residential area. Plenty of shade and camaraderie. Join in for 20 minutes or a double round of 40 minutes.  
Wear a mask. Bring your own water. Led by Beth Peshia, health and wellness coordinator. Must register in advance by calling 630-554-5602.

History through Biographies: Wednesdays, 11 a.m. Join this history class through Zoom with instructor Mike Adolph, a retired history teacher. Mike moderates a lively discussion as participants explore history by presenting biographies they’ve chosen from a list of more than 200 Americans, such as Teddy Roosevelt, Gary Kildall or member suggestions. Nutrition Made Easy Cooking Class: Wednesday, July 29, 2 p.m., fruit salad.
