Kendall County Sheriff's Deputies responded to two separate motor vehicle crashes involving motorcycles on Route 71 in the Newark area Sunday, Aug. 30.
In a press release, police said the first crash occurred at 11:48 a.m. on Route 71 at County Line Road, Newark. Police said deputies determined the motorcycle driver, Francis Walter, 73, of the 200 block of Prairie Avenue, Glen Ellyn, rear-ended a vehicle turning left onto southbound County Line Road from southwest-bound Route 71.
Police said Walter was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and cited for following too closely.
The second crash occurred at 2:59 p.m. at Route 71 and Townhouse Road when a motorcycle driven by Domingo Fietes of the 700 block of Union Street, Aurora, sideswiped a vehicle turning southbound onto Townhouse Road from southwest-bound Route 71, police said in a press release.
Newark Fire Protection District emergency medical personnel treated Fietes and a passenger at the the scene for minor injuries and they were released, according to police.
Police said Fietes was issued citations for improper passing at an intersection and violation of his diver's license classification.
