To the Editor:
On Sept. 11, the Sandwich Lions Club hosted a very successful Fay’s Bar-B-Que drive-thru dinner. Not only did this event offer a chance for patrons to enjoy a traditional Sandwich Fair meal, this was an especially important fundraiser in light of the fact that no 2020 Sandwich Fair also meant no annual steer raffle for the club. In a typical year, the proceeds of the steer raffle provide the majority of the funds the club has available to help the community in many important ways. The Fay’s dinner provided the means for the Sandwich Lions Club to continue its humanitarian work during the upcoming year.
In addition to the faithful Lion members and their families and friends who helped in many ways, thanks are due to Heartland Bank, Church Street and Gletty Road branches, for helping to sell tickets; Prairie View School for the use of their grounds and facilities; the Sandwich Police Department for traffic control; and the Sandwich and neighboring communities for their tremendous support of our fundraiser. The help and support of all of these groups and individuals was essential to the success of our event and is greatly appreciated.
