The Foxes, ranked 12th nationally coming in, beat five other nationally-ranked teams – including No. 4 Naperville North and No. 2 Wayzata (Minn). – to win the Gary Wilson Girls Gold Race at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
"It's probably the biggest invitational win in our school's history," Yorkville coach Chris Muth said. "Beating what is perceived to be five top-ranked teams is a huge accomplishment. Saturday was our day."
The Foxes scored 104 points, with Naperville North second (113) and Downers Grove South (170) third.
Four Yorkville runners finished in the top 25 in the 5-kilometer race, including Helena Kleronomos (13th, 18:27.8), Emily Eberhart (15th, 18:29.9), Kailey Fox (18th, 18:37.8) and Sara Klemm (24th, 18:53.0). Hailey Simmons was 50th (19:28.3) and Olivia Borowiak 62nd in 19:38.3.
